Well, after you read Levaithan ;) haha
This book is basically an alternat reality where a Gladiator Association has been established. The book gives you an intro about that, it's pretty cool.
So yeah, theres the Gladiator sport, which is almost the equivalent to our WWE wrestling stuff. Except it's HUGE and kinda controlling. Like they have a whole government of sorts. The most affected people of this government are, of course, Gladiators, and then their wives and children. Wives have entire ettiqute requirements, they're only allowed to marry up to 7 gladiators, etc.
So this girl (sorry I can't remember her name) is forced to abide by those rules because her mom is a Glad wife. When her 7th father dies in a fight, she ends up being forced to marry the Glad that killed him because of the Glad rules. In order to get out of the marriage, she becomes a gladiator herself.
